macOS 10.15 Catalina

There is a 1/8" wide band at very bottom of the screen that cycles (disappears, reappears) every 3 seconds, showing a slice from top of screen.  Doesn't matter whether on HDMI or MHL/HDMI, doesn't matter what operating system running in the attached device.

@DFClark -- what refresh-rate is the monitor using?

What display-resolution  -- 800x600?  1024x768? 1280x1024? 1920x1080 ?

 

Can try experiment, by connecting the monitor to a different computer?

Refresh rate is 60 hz, resolution is 2560x1440.  Tried connecting MacBook Pro and Raspberry Pi to both HDMI and MHL/HDMI inputs, same results.

Same monitor --> same results.  Therefore, it is the monitor that has a problem.

 

Can you use the OSD (On Screen Display) buttons to either:

1. "reset" the monitor to factory settings;

2. adjust the VPOS (vertical position) of the monitor "downward", to push that "bottom-band" downward, until it reappears at the same of the screen?

The only mention of OSD in the main Menu is "OSD Control", and there is no mention of VPOS in that menu.  There is a Factory Reset under the Management menu item - did that, no change.  There is an OSD Size menu item under OSD Control, and on that screen the choices are Auto, Normal and Large.  Tried all, no change with any of them.

Note that the pixels that are appearing/flashing in that band at the bottom is NOT the top 1/8".  It's showing bits of icons that start about 15 mm down from the actual top of the display area.

@DFClark / @dfclark1 -- the electronics inside the monitor should "paint" the screen, from top-to-bottom.

 

However, for your monitor, the "painting" is being done incorrectly -- maybe "duplicating"  some group of rows from the "video-buffer".

 

So, given that your monitor is failing when connected to many computers, your monitor is failing.

There is nothing you can do, except, if the monitor is less than 12 months old, contact HP Support to make a claim against the warranty, to get it fixed/replaced, at HP's expense.
