Product: HP ProDisplay P222va 21.5-inch Monitor

Im trying to connect a second monitor to my laptop through a vga cable, but the display is black most of the time, except when I restart the laptop. At that moment, the 2nd monitor comes alive and it shows me the restart screen, right how I see it on my laptop, but when the restart is complete, it goes black again.
