HP Pavilion Desktop - TP01-0145m
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi all,

I don't know much about computers and would very much appreciate some advice. I purchased a 2nd monitor for my Pavilion Desktop and realized that I only had one HDMI port on the tower when I tried to connect the new monitor. This surprised me as having two monitors just seems like a normal thing nowadays. Anyways, I really don't want to lose video quality attaching the 2nd monitor with a VGA cable. Is there a workaround that doesn't involve purchasing a new graphics card and installing a new hdmi port? My two monitors are HP 27mq and 27q.

Thank you.

@AtomHBomb

if this is your computer, you don't have many options, if you want two screens with HDMI connections, then you will need to find a graphics card with two HDMI ports
the original 180w power supply limits the choices
You could always install another power supply, but that's an extra expense

@AtomHBomb

Its specs

       https://support.hp.com/sg-en/document/c06429270

It has following ports at its back

(4) USB 2.0 Type-A
(1) RJ-45/Ethernet port
(1) HDMI v1.4b/HDCP 2.2 port
(1) VGA port
(3) Audio ports

You can use HDMI and VGA (native connection) to connect to 2 monitors. Your monitors

  • HP 27mq: has BOTH HDMI and VGA ports      (m1)
  • HP 27q: has 1 DVI-D, 1 DisplayPort 1.2 and 1 HDMI 1.4 (m2)

You can connect

  • m1 to VGA port using VGA cable (native connection, no conversion) and
  • m2 to HDMI port using HDMI cable.

Regards.

Hi Banhien. Thank you for your response. My limited understanding of VGA connections is that they are of a much lower quality than HDMI. I would prefer to have a connection to the 2nd monitor that enables me to view the display at its highest quality, as I am accustomed to with the 1st monitor. Will I need a new HDMI port and video card or is there a workaround?

Thank you again for your time.
