HP Pavilion 595-p0074

My desktop has one HDMI port and I tried using a splitter to add a second monitor - this did not work, it's not recognizing the second monitor.  I believe this desktop is not capable of having a second monitor but was hoping to confirm.

Hi @DRomesmo,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's possible that your HP Pavilion desktop can support a second monitor, but the HDMI splitter method you used might not work as intended. HDMI splitters are typically designed to duplicate the same signal to multiple monitors rather than extend the display.

Here are a few steps to confirm and address the issue.

  • Check Graphics Card Capabilities: Confirm if your graphics card or integrated graphics support multiple displays. You can usually find this information in the specifications of your desktop model or the graphics card documentation.
  • Additional Video Ports: Inspect your desktop for other video output ports, such as DisplayPort, VGA, or DVI. If your desktop has another type of video output, you can use it for the second monitor with the appropriate cable or adapter.
  • Use a USB Display Adapter: If your desktop lacks additional video output ports, you can use a USB to HDMI adapter. These adapters can provide an additional display output through a USB port.
  • Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure your graphics drivers are up to date. Sometimes, updating drivers can resolve recognition issues with multiple monitors.
  • Display Settings: After connecting the second monitor, go to your display settings in Windows to detect and configure the additional monitor. Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings," then click "Detect" under the Multiple displays section.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
