Hi @Avantikaa

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're facing a frustrating issue with the audio on your HP desktop running Windows 11. Since you've already tried a few basic troubleshooting steps (reinstalling drivers, restarting the audio service, etc.), let's dive into more advanced steps to fix the issue.

Here are some steps you can follow to fix the audio issue:

1. Check Default Playback Device

  • Right-click the speaker icon on the taskbar (bottom-right corner).
  • Select Open Sound settings.
  • Under Output, ensure the correct device (your speakers) is selected. Sometimes, Windows defaults to a different audio output (e.g., HDMI or Bluetooth).
  • If your speakers are not set as the default device, click the device in the list and select Set as Default.

2. Check Audio Output Settings in Control Panel

  • Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box, type control and press Enter.
  • In the Control Panel, go to Hardware and Sound > Sound.
  • In the Playback tab, you should see a list of available audio devices. Right-click on your speakers and select Set as Default Device.
  • Also, ensure that your speakers are not muted and the volume is turned up.

3. Run the Windows Audio Troubleshooter Again

Even though you’ve used HP Assistant for troubleshooting, try using Windows' built-in audio troubleshooter:

  • Right-click the Start button and select Settings.
  • Go to System > Sound.
  • Scroll down and click Troubleshoot under Advanced sound options.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to see if Windows can detect and fix any audio problems.

4. Check Device Manager for Audio Issues

  • Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
  • Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
  • Right-click on your audio device and select Update driver.
  • You can either choose Search automatically for updated driver software or Browse my computer for drivers if you have a specific driver file.
  • If you see a yellow warning icon next to your audio device, it indicates a driver issue. Right-click the device, and you can try uninstalling the driver and restarting your PC. Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver upon reboot.

I hope this helps.

Hi @Avantikaa,

Thank you for your response. It sounds like you've tried the basic troubleshooting steps, but the audio issue still persists on your HP desktop with Windows 11. If the speakers are working fine with your laptop, the issue is likely within the desktop's settings or hardware. Let’s walk through a few additional steps that might help you fix the audio issue:

1. Check Audio Output Device

  • Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Open Sound Settings.
  • Under Output, ensure the correct audio device (speakers or headphones) is selected. Sometimes Windows may default to an incorrect output device, like a Bluetooth device or a virtual audio device.

2. Run the Audio Troubleshooter

  • Open Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  • Find and click Playing Audio, then select Run.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and let Windows attempt to detect and fix any issues.

3. Check the Audio Service

Sometimes, the Windows audio service might be disabled or stopped. Here’s how to check:

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
  • Scroll down and find Windows Audio in the list of services.
  • Right-click it and select Start if it’s not running. If it's already running, right-click and choose Restart.
  • Also, ensure the Startup Type is set to Automatic.

4. Check Device Manager for Conflicts

  • Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
  • Expand the Sound, video, and game controllers section and look for any yellow warning signs (indicating a problem).
  • If there’s an issue, right-click the audio device and select Uninstall Device. Then, restart your PC, and Windows should automatically reinstall the drivers.
  • Alternatively, if you see your audio device listed but the driver isn't working correctly, right-click and select Update Driver, then follow the prompts to search for updated drivers.

I hope this helps.
