The VGA/HDMI converter arrived and after at least a couple of hours with your tech taking remote access we both had to accept that the issue can't be fixed as it is not a technical problem.
The simple fact, in my opinion, is that the product descrption which states: "Immerse yourself in great sound without cluttering your desk with the messy cords and external speakers. Powerful built-in audio paired with crisp FHD resolution make this display the full entertainment package." is completely misleading and plain wrong - the sound quality is rubbish so I have disabled the built in speakers and connected external speakers - the sound is now perfect.
I have been buying HP products for many years and have to say that this has been my worst experience so, if you guys get someone with a similar problem, I suggest you save them and yourselves a lot of time and anguish - the audio cannot be fixed as it is quite simply rubbish!!
