HP Pavilion 31.5 inch All-in-One Desktop PC 32-b1000i (6J6L4AV)

Just received this new AIO unit.  Great specs, yet I am unable to connect an external HDMI monitor.  The unit has 3 HDMI ports that all appear to be inputs. Then there is a USB-C.  I have tried a USB-C to HDMI dongle, and a hub, and neither seem to work. When I plug it in to the computer, a popup indicates that "USB device functionality might be limited.  Make sure the device you're connecting to is supported by your PC."  Tech support is totally useless.  One even sent me over to a salesman to purchase support when I wanted to know if the HDMI's were input or output. Another rep told me to take it to a technician who could remove a screw and change the HDMI port to output. That was it. I just called product sales to find out if a genuine, powered USB hub would fix the problem, and after researching, he indicated that my USB-C port is a slow port, not fast enough to run video over.  How can this be?  Is this true?  I can not operate this AIO without an external monitor and will have to return this computer.

Hi @BillyShek25,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you are having trouble connecting an external monitor to your HP Pavilion 31.5-inch All-In-One Desktop PC, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

Check the cables and connections:

  • Make sure you are using the correct cable to connect the external monitor to your All-In-One PC (e.g., HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA).
  • Ensure that the cable is securely plugged into both the external monitor and the PC.

Monitor Input Source:

  • On your external monitor, ensure that the input source is set to the correct input where you've connected the cable (e.g., HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc.). Use the monitor's on-screen menu to select the correct input source.

Function Key:

  • Some laptops require you to use a function key (e.g., F4, F5, F7) in combination with the "Fn" key to toggle between the internal and external displays. Try pressing the appropriate function key to switch to the external monitor.

Display Settings:

  • Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings" or "Graphics properties." Ensure that the external monitor is recognized and configured correctly in the display settings. You may need to extend or duplicate your display depending on your preference.

Graphics Driver:

  • Make sure your graphics driver is up to date. Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can cause display issues. Visit the HP support website and download the latest graphics drivers for your specific model.

Restart the Computer:

  • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve display issues. Restart your PC with the external monitor connected.

Check for Hardware Issues:

  • Test the external monitor with another computer to ensure it's functioning correctly. If it works with another computer, then the issue may be with your HP Pavilion's hardware.

BIOS/UEFI Settings:

  • Check your computer's BIOS/UEFI settings for any display-related options that may need adjustment. Access the BIOS/UEFI during startup (usually by pressing a key like F2 or Del) and look for display settings.

Driver Conflicts:

  • Sometimes, third-party software or conflicting drivers can cause display issues. Try disabling or uninstalling any recently installed software that may be causing conflicts.

Hardware Compatibility:

  • Ensure that your All-In-One PC supports connecting an external monitor. Not all All-In-One PCs are designed to support external displays.

Remember to follow these steps carefully and systematically to identify and resolve the issue with connecting your external monitor to your HP Pavilion All-In-One PC.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
