I've been having problems with my computer completely freezing while playing games. The only way to get it going again is to press and hold the power button. It boots normally after that. The games I play this computer should be able to handle without a problem (Roblox, The Sims 4 and a Need for Speed game from 2005). The freezing is inconsistent. Sometimes it will freeze when the game starts and sometimes you can play for a half an hour to an hour before it freezes. I've checked the temperature reading after I restart. It is usually around 40 degree Celsius. The computer is less than a year old and very clean.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. I have used the HP provided version and the Nvidia version. I tried disabling the game bar. I unplugged all my nonessential devices to see if there was a conflict.

What else can I try?

@nownthen, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Game Freezing Issues on HP PCs!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Computer freezing during gameplay can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

Check System Requirements

  1. Verify Hardware and Software Requirements: Ensure your computer meets the minimum requirements for the games you are playing. This can be done by closing unnecessary applications and comparing your computer specs with those of your games using online resources.

Update Software and Drivers

Update Game Software: Check for any updates or patches from the game developer that may help resolve bugs and improve compatibility and performance.

Install HP and Windows Updates: Outdated BIOS, software, applications, and drivers can cause performance issues. Use Windows Update to install important and optional updates, or visit your graphics card manufacturer's website to download the latest video drivers.

Network and Performance Settings

Improve Latency: Ensure a stable internet connection, preferably through an Ethernet cable rather than Wi-Fi, reset your router or modem, and limit network use by other devices when playing online games.

Adjust Game and Video Settings: Lowering graphics quality settings can help reduce GPU load, improve FPS, and decrease lag. Ensure video display settings match game requirements by right-clicking on the desktop, choosing "Display settings," and adjusting resolution as needed.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
