I have an HP 24u K5A38A monitor and I am trying to connect it to my X1 Carbon Lenovo Thinkpad. I already have one other monitor connected via HDMI port in the computer directly to the monitor but want to have another one. I had a docking station previously that connected to a USB C port and had an HDMI cable that ran into the docking station from the second monitor. I believe that the HDMI port on that docking station no longer works, so I just tried to purchase a HDMI to USB C connector that I am trying to connect to the second port in my computer. However, it is not working. What am I doing wrong and what equipment do I need?

You have to ask Lenovo, not HP. What is the generation of your X1 Carbon Lenovo Thinkpad ? For Gen 9, it has
- 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 1
- 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 (Always On)
- 2 x Thunderbolt 4 / USB4™ 40Gbps (support data transfer, Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort™ 1.4a)
- 1 x HDMI 2.0
- 1 x headphone / mic
You can connect second monitor to its Thunderbolt™ 4 port.
Regards.
