HP Pavilion 590-p0072
Microsoft Windows 11

I am attempting to connect a second monitor to my Pavilion 590-p0072 by connecting from the HDMI port on the monitor to the VGA port on the desktop. The computer detects the second monitor but I can't see anything. I am wanting to be able to extend the monitor (not simply duplicate it). I previously tried using an HDMI splitter to connect to the single HDMI port on the desktop. I could see both monitors but it only duplicated the image.

Is it possible to extend the image to a second monitor with this desktop computer?

The specs of your machine is

             https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05991291

It has

  • (1) VGA port
  • (1) HDMI 1.4/HDCP 2.2
  • (1) USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A port
  • (5) USB 2.0 Type-A ports
  • (3) Audio ports
  • (1) RJ-45 port

HDMI slitter is a joke. If you wish to connect to 2 monitors you have to use

Monitor 1 : HDMI to HDMI

Monitor 2 : native VGA to VGA (no conversion).

OR

Monitor 1: HDMI to HDMI

Monitor 2:Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as

                                     USB to HDMI Adapter

Regards.
