HP ENVY Laptop - 15-ep0008na
Microsoft Windows 11

I have an HP Envy laptop which I've had for a year.  It's been running fine up until about a week ago.  The display keeps flashing on and off and the mouse curser is bouncing around the screen with a mind of it's own.  This is making my laptop almost unusable.  Any suggestions for a fix?  There don't appear to be any software updates available.  It also seems to be over-heating.

Hi @poppysimba

Welcome to the HP Support Community. Thanks for bringing this to our notice.

I see that you are facing issues with your system. Do not worry, we are here to fix it.

May I know from when are you facing this issue?

Did you make any hardware or software-related changes to it?

Let's reinstall the graphics driver to check if the issue persists:

1) On your keyboard, press Win+R (the Windows logo key and R key) at the same time to invoke the Run box.

2) Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter to open the Device Manager window.

3) Double-click Display adapters to view the devices in the category. Then right click the graphics card name (for example, NVIDIA GeForce GT 640), and select Uninstall device (in some cases, this could be just Uninstall).

4) On the Uninstall confirm dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option, then click Uninstall.

5) Restart your system to resolve the issue.

If the issue persists, please boot your system into safe mode and check if the issue persists in safe mode. Here is a link that will help: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00806682

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

This hasn't resolved the issue.

Were you able to check the functionality in the safe mode? If yes, please let me know your observations. Were you facing the issue in the safe mode as well?

Also, please answer the queries asked in my first message as it will help me understand the issue better.

Keep me posted.

I tried to open in safe mode but nothing happens when I press F8. If I try to go into safe mode whilst the PC is running I get a message pop up saying I need to provide a bitlocker key and recovery password.  (see attached)  I dont know what this means so im reluctant to proceed. Can you advise?

In that case, you may skip that part and boot into the BIOS to see if the issue persists in the BIOS.

Keep me posted.

Thanks!

Sorry but you need to explain what BIOS is and how to do it.

HP Recommended

BIOS (basic input/output system) is the program a computer's microprocessor uses to start the computer system after it is powered on. It also manages data flow between the computer's operating system (OS) and attached devices, such as the hard disk, video adapter, keyboard, mouse, and printer.

Turn off the computer, press the power button, and then repeatedly press the ESC key until the Startup Menu opens. Press f10 to enter BIOS Setup Utility.

Let me know if the issue persists in the BIOS.
