Hi, I purchased a HP Envy desktop computer and thought I can connect to the two monitors I already have. But it appears that the second monitor won't detect any signal from the computer. The HDMI to HDMI works at recommended resolutions. But the VGA to HDMI won't have any signal. I am hoping that the USB-C port can be used as a second display video output. Can you please help me to take a look whether it is the case? Do I need to upgrade a graphics card for 4K monitors? I am not going to do any gaming at all, it just for productivity, spreadsheets and accounting software. the bigger screens will help my eyes. Thank you in advance!

what exactly are you referring to?
Your computer, part of the series here
https://support.hp.com/ca-en/product/hp-envy-desktop-pc-te01-1000i/32480777
if you look at the other models
https://support.hp.com/ca-en/product/hp-envy-desktop-pc-te01-1000i/32480777/product-info
You will find computers, with the same motherboard as yours
Baker
And other graphics card models installed in the other configuration
so some computers have a power supply of different power
you may find a power supply model if needed here

"I am thinking to get a cheap graphics card for $100. Otherwise I have to return the machine and buy another one that works with dual display. "
so if you can return it, get your money back, that seems like the best option to me.
Easier than bothering you to install a graphics card that may not work, obligation to replace the power supply, risk of breaking everything
If you need, open another thread, give your budget, some indication of what you want etc.
and we may be able to advise you, unless you choose a brand other than hp

Hello
vga/hdmi adapters are quite often ineffective
it is necessary to find a correct converter, and not always easy
The 4k, with the vga, I also have a doubt!
depending on your power supply, see if you can install a graphics card, even if not very powerful, with the connectors you need

[edit] @Prométhée you beat me by seconds again!
Your system as specified here
optionally comes with NVidia graphics card 166o super.
If you did not get that card then the onboard video as described here
https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-desktop-pc-te01-1000i/32480777/document/c06638240
only supports VGA for the second monitor which will not get you the 4k resolution. You should get a signal of some type or a warning.
Video cards like the 1660 super
https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-gtx-1660-super.c3458
may be difficult or costly to obtain.
If your system has Wi-Fi (indicted in the top specification link) then you might try a 4k wireless adapter for your monitor.
Your system needs to support Miracast as described here
in order to use the Microsoft 4k wireless adapter.
If your budget can afford it, the "HP" 1660 super is the way to go as the power supply in your case is rated properly for that card.

yes, and, I was waiting to see if the user could give more information about his power supply, before proposing models
it may just be a 180w power supply only, in which case most recent graphics cards will not work
with a bit of luck it will be more than 300w

@JCacctx22 Neither the 180 nor the 300 will work as explained by @Prométhée , you will need the 450 watt supply

how to tell what is the power supply of my machine? In the specs page corresponds to my model, there is no infor about power supply. Is the link you provided applicable to all PC in 1000 series? I am thinking to get a cheap graphics card for $100. Otherwise I have to return the machine and buy another one that works with dual display.
Thanks

You will have to look at the power supply and to verify what you have.
