I just got my USB 3.0->VGA adapter in and plugged in my HD monitor. My computer has the resolution for the second monitor locked in to 800x600. It looks like garbage and won't let me change it to a better resolution. What do we think the problem is? Cheap VGA adapter? Limits of my computer using an extended monitor? I'm just an idiot and don't know how to actually change the settings?
Thanks in advance!

Do you have more than one external monitor connected to the computer?
In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need the product number of your computer.

Thank you for the information.
I see that there are no display ports available on the computer.
You need to look for a USB to VGA or USB to HDMI adapter to connect an external display to the computer.
I hope that answers your question and you have a great day!

That is correct, this computer did not come with a video output. As the original post states, I already have the adapter, and for all I know, it is the weak link here. That is my current guess since both monitors are ostensibly HD. Though, my HP Envy won't turn on the HD switch and says that it's not capable, which is annoying.

You need to try a couple of adapters to find the one which works with your computer.
