HP ENVY All-in-One - 27-b220qd CTO

I have an HP ENVY All-in-One 27" (side-note: the HP website won't recognize my serial number so I can't add it to my profile).

I have an external monitor connected via the HDMI-out port. When I boot the computer, I see the HP logo duplicated on both screens; if I switch into UEFI mode during boot to run diagnostics, the display is duplicated.

Signal to both monitors

When I boot into Windows 11, the display goes blank and reports "NO VIDEO INPUT". Windows Settings > System > Display recognizes that there IS a display connected.

Windows: no signal on HDMI externalWindows: no signal on HDMI external

Because I get a picture during boot, I know this isn't a hardware issue. But I have confirmed that the monitor is functional by connecting it to another computer. I've had this monitor connected and functional in the past, but it's been at my office for several months and I'm just bringing it home for the HP Envy temporarily.

My guess is that it's a driver issue?  I've tried the latest Intel/Nvdia drivers as well as the latest HP drivers; the drivers from HP are not as new as the Intel/Nvdia. I have tried rolling back, and re-updating. And I've completely uninstalled the device and reinstalled it.

Hi @bryanbuchs,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with the monitor that is connected to your Laptop .

-Perform a power drain on your PC.

1) Unplug the power cord from the PC & wall.

2) Disconnect the power cable from the AC adapter if it is a detachable part and keep it aside.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the AC adapter, then connect it to the wall and to the charging port on your PC.

5) Power on the PC and wait for the PC to boot into Windows now.

-Update the BIOS for your PC by clicking on the link.

Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.

Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.

Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

-Install all the pending updates for the Windows operating system following the below steps and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.

-If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

I've followed the steps provided but no resolution.

  1. Power drain
  2. Check for bios updates -- none available, already the latest version
  3. All Windows updates applied

From the troubleshooting doc:

  1. monitor power is working

  2. "default message" is visible when powering monitor off then on

  3. Monitor has inputs for HDMI, DVI, and DisplayPort. Tested HDMI and DVI monitor inputs to HDMI output from computer
  4. Connecting to a laptop, both monitor inputs work with the laptop HDMI and USB-C
  5. Again, connected to laptop confims the monitor is good.

Windows Settings recognizes that there is another display connected, shows the model number for the external display, but there's no video being sent to the external while in Windows.  When booting, video is duplicated on the external but goes dark as soon as WIndows starts up.
