@informaticabp,

Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

1. Perform a Hard Reset

Sometimes, a simple hard reset can fix many display issues.

  • Power off the laptop completely.
  • Disconnect any external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.).
  • Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to drain any residual power.
  • Release the button and press the power button again to turn the system on.

2. Try Safe Mode

Safe Mode starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers, which can help you troubleshoot the issue.

  1. Force Windows to enter Recovery Mode:
    • Power off your laptop.
    • Power it on, and as soon as you see the HP logo, press and hold the Power button for 10 seconds to force the system to shut down.
    • Turn it on again, and when the HP logo appears, repeat the process. After doing this three times, Windows should enter Recovery Mode.
  2. Access Safe Mode:
    • Once in Recovery Environment, go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings.
    • Click on Restart, and once the system restarts, press F4 to boot into Safe Mode.

3. Uninstall the Latest Update

If you can access Safe Mode or the Recovery Environment, try uninstalling the problematic update:

  1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > View Update History.
  2. Uninstall Updates and look for the recent update (usually labeled as Feature Update to Windows 11, version 23H2) and uninstall it.

Alternatively, in Recovery Mode:

  • Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Uninstall Updates.
  • Choose to uninstall the latest quality or feature update.

4. Perform a System Restore

If the update caused significant issues, restoring your system to a previous state might resolve the problem.

  1. Access System Restore:
    • In Recovery Mode, select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > System Restore.
    • Choose a restore point before the update was installed and follow the instructions to restore your system.

5. Update Graphics Drivers

Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can cause display issues, especially after updates.

  1. Boot into Safe Mode (as mentioned in step 2).
  2. Go to Device Manager (press Win + X and select Device Manager).
  3. Expand the Display Adapters section and right-click on your graphics driver.
  4. Select Update Driver and choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
  5. Restart the computer after updating.

6. Check for Hardware Issues

Sometimes a black screen can be caused by a hardware issue, such as a faulty display or loose connections.

  • If you have an external monitor or TV, try connecting your laptop to it via HDMI or DisplayPort.
    • If the external screen works, it could indicate an issue with your laptop's display or internal graphics.
  • Inspect the laptop screen for physical issues (flickering, dim display, etc.) and ensure no cables are loose.

7. Reset Windows (Last Resort)

If none of the above step's work and you still can't access Windows, you might need to perform a system reset. This will reinstall Windows, but you can choose whether or not to keep your files.

  1. Access Recovery Mode by turning the laptop on and off three times, as described earlier.
  2. Select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
  3. Choose to keep your files (if possible) or remove everything.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset.

8. Reinstall Windows via Bootable USB (If Necessary)

If your laptop still won’t boot, you can reinstall Windows using a bootable USB drive.

  1. Create a Windows 11 installation USB using the Windows Media Creation Tool on another PC.
  2. Insert the USB into the HP laptop and boot from it (press Esc or F9 during boot to select the boot device).
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall Windows 11.

Additional Notes:

  • Battery: Ensure your laptop's battery is charged or connected to the charger while performing these steps.
  • Backup Important Data: If you’re able to access Windows in any form, it's a good idea to back up your files before resetting or reinstalling Windows.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue
