Pavilion p6-2103w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I installed an ASUS GT-1030 graphics card in the PCIe slot and plugged my dual monitors into it.  30 watts power.

During boot the BIOS screen came up on one screen but then nothing.  After a few seconds the POST failure beep sounded.

The "power good" green light on the power supply is lighted.

The instructions that came with the card are very sparse and mention nothing about installing any drivers.

Should I have found and installed the drivers before the card was installed??

Any ideas on how I might recover from my fiasco??

@JackNoble

The latest/vaialble BIOS for your machine is 7.16 Ver A as shown

You need BIOS version 8 or above to support GT-1030. Unfortunately your machine is  around 9 years old now, no newer BIOS.

For some cards this obviously does not work, but it can give you an idea for another model if needed

Note: You can just press F1 at the HP boot screen to boot it without the crackling noise. Pressing F12 without touching Esc also seems to work for some. Alt + F10 has been reported to work, too. Note 2: Not all Cupertino2s are built equal, it seems, and some of them will still fail to run free ...
