HP 22er Monitor
macOS 10.12 Sierra

Please note that I am using the monitor as an extra display - it is not connected to a pc.

When the power cable is plugged in, the small light next to the cable turns on implying that the monitor is getting power. However when I press the on button, nothing happens. If i plug my HDMI cable into the monitor whilst connected to my laptop, my laptop recognises the display as being on yet nothing happens as the display remains completely black. (With still no light by on button)

I have tried holding the power button for 10 secs to 'unlock' it but that has not worked. I have also tried holding for 30-60 secs to 'reset' as this is what I have read on forums.

Many thanks

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand your HP 22er monitor display isn't working,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Did you check with an alternate power source or wall outlet?

Have you checked if the monitor has a display using a flashlight?

While you respond to that,

do the following items to prepare for troubleshooting:

  • Turn off the computer.

  • Disconnect all connected devices from the computer except the mouse, and keyboard. This includes removing thumb drives and camera-type memory cards.

  • If the monitor has a detachable cable, obtain a second monitor cable for testing purposes.

Step 1: Checking power

Disconnect the video cable from the monitor and make sure the monitor power cable is plugged into a power outlet.

With the monitor plugged in, press the power button on the monitor. There should be a power indicator light located on the monitor case. What happens to the light?

  • If power light remains off when you press the power button, either the monitor is not receiving power or the monitor is defective. Check all of the following items before attempting to service or replace the monitor:

    • Make sure the power outlet has power and the power outlet matches the power rating for the monitor.

    • Connect the a different power outlet.

    • Try a different power cord.

  • If the light comes on, the monitor has power. Continue to the next Step.

Step 2: Displaying a built-in on-screen message

Use the following steps to see if a built-in on-screen message displays.

  1. Connect the video cable and turn on the computer.

  2. Turn on the monitor and wait about ten seconds while the computer starts.

  3. While the computer is starting, disconnect the video cable. What happens?

(By the end of this article all the issues should be resolved)

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Thanks for your reply.

I have seen this solution on other forums and have already attempted it.

As mentioned, when the power cable is plugged in the small light next to it turns on which tells me power is reaching the monitor.

However, pressing the on button on the monitor doesn't do anything.

@emma20

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

You are right, if the light is turning on, it means that the monitor is being powered, however as it isn't turning on,

I recommend trying an alternate power cord as though the light is turning on, sometimes a faulty cord may not supply the power required for the monitor to turn on.

That said, I recommend you Contact HP to have the monitor replaced if an alternate cord doesn't do the trick:

Hey Emma,

I got the exact same issue too. At the end I just call up technical support and ask for a replacement.
