HP 24mh 23.8-inch Display

I have a HP 24mh monitor set up with my MacBook Pro.  I always seem to struggle getting the HP to display what is on my computer screen (when the Mac lid is shut).  Sometimes I get the HP to reflect the Mac display and sometimes I don’t.

Are there some settings on the HP I need to change? Or is there some other issue I need to address?

Hi @boulanger49,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP 24mh monitor is not syncing with your MacBook and displaying a "No Signal" message, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Check the connections: Ensure that the cables between your MacBook and the monitor are securely connected at both ends. Make sure you are using the correct cables, such as HDMI or DisplayPort, depending on the available ports on your MacBook and the monitor.
  • Verify the input source: On your HP 24mh monitor, make sure you have selected the correct input source that corresponds to the cable you are using (e.g., HDMI, DisplayPort). Use the monitor's OSD (On-Screen Display) menu to switch between different input sources.
  • Adjust MacBook display settings: If the MacBook is not detecting the external monitor, you can try adjusting the display settings. Go to the Apple menu, select "System Preferences," then choose "Displays." In the Displays settings, make sure the "Arrangement" tab is selected, and check the "Mirror Displays" box. If it's already checked, you can try unchecking and rechecking it to force a refresh.
  • Restart the MacBook and monitor: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Turn off both the MacBook and the monitor, and then power them back on again. Allow them to fully boot up and try connecting again.
  • Test with another device and cable: To determine whether the issue is with the monitor or the MacBook, try connecting the monitor to another device, such as a different laptop or a game console, using the same cable. If the monitor works fine with another device, the problem is likely with your MacBook or its settings. If the monitor still does not sync with the other device, it might indicate a problem with the monitor itself or the cable.
  • Update macOS and monitor firmware: Ensure that your MacBook is running the latest version of macOS. Go to the Apple menu, select "System Preferences," then choose "Software Update" to check for any available updates. Additionally, visit the HP support website and search for your specific monitor model to see if there are any firmware updates available. Updating the firmware can address compatibility issues and improve connectivity.
  • Reset NVRAM/PRAM: Resetting the NVRAM (Non-Volatile Random-Access Memory) or PRAM (Parameter RAM) on your MacBook can sometimes resolve display-related issues. To do this, restart your MacBook and immediately press and hold the Command + Option + P + R keys simultaneously until you hear the startup chime twice. Then release the keys and allow your MacBook to boot up normally.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
