macOS 26.0 Tahoe

My monitors are taking turns flickering. I have two HP 27er monitors from 2017-ish connected to my Mac OS. Where do I reinstall the drivers for these for a Mac? I can only see Windows options.

Hi @Jessie222,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP 27er monitors are flickering when connected to your Mac. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this — and don’t worry, Macs do not need monitor drivers.

No drivers are needed for Mac monitors

HP 27er is a “plug-and-play” display.

macOS handles all monitor drivers automatically, so there’s nothing to reinstall.

Check the display cables and ports

Try swapping the HDMI cables or use different ports on the Mac or adapter.

Loose or aging HDMI cables are the most common cause of flickering on the 27er series.

Reset the refresh rate in macOS

Apple menu → System Settings → Displays.

Select the monitor → set “Refresh Rate” to 60Hz.

If it’s set to “Default,” manually selecting 60Hz often stabilizes flicker.

Check for adapter issues (common with Macs)

If you’re using USB-C → HDMI hubs/adapters, try a different one.

Cheap adapters can’t output stable 1080p60 to two monitors simultaneously.

Test one monitor at a time

Disconnect one 27er and test the other for 2–3 minutes.

If each monitor works fine alone, the issue is with the hub/docking setup.

Disable variable refresh (if enabled)

Some Mac setups enable VRR automatically.

Go to Displays → Advanced → turn OFF “Variable Refresh Rate” if visible.

Check for power fluctuations

Plug both monitors into a different outlet or power strip.

Flickering on older HP IPS panels can happen when the power brick ages.

I hope this helps.
