HP 27fw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Monitor: HP27fw

GPU: AMD Radeon RX460

Using the menus on the monitor, it would appear that it is impossible to set CustomRGB and have AMD Freesync enabled.

If you enable the Viewing Mode, Gaming - FreeSync, CustomRGB is disabled.

If you enable CustomRGB, then AMD FreeSync is disabled.

Is this by design, or is it a bug with the monitor firmware?

If this is by design, can someone explain why I can't set a custom RGB with FreeSync?

@DruidsNectar,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

This is a wonderful place to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips.

I'll be glad to help you 🙂

I would like to inform you that you will not be able to enable custom RGB and AMD FreeSync at the same time.

As you have mentioned, if you enable one the other one gets disabled automatically and it is by design.

Hope that answers your question.

Thanks for you reply, but as per my question, if this is by design, why is it so?

I calibrate my monitor using the Datacolor Spyder 4 Elite, and therefore being able to set as many settings on the monitor as possible is preferable to having to set colour calibration using software. Software calibration (colour profiles) are overridden by games, etc, and therefore lost.

Using CustomRGB I'm able to achieve a Delta E of 0.2, using the Gaming - Freesync setting, I can only achieve a Delta E of 1.1. As you can see that is a considerable difference, and caused by what appears to be a poor implementation of the monitor settings. However, using CustomRGB, I lose out on Freesync. No where in the montior documentation is this limitation mentioned.

So, please enlighten me, and explain why it is designed this way.

@DruidsNectar,

It is great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.

I would like to inform you that you can have only one set of settings for your display. Custom RGB uses different settings and AMD FreeSync uses different settings.

Hope that answers your question.
