I have 3 Asus monitors hooked up to this desktop using an AMD Radeon HD 5570 video card but want to change it to a video card via USB.  What card do I need to buy and is this even possible?  How do I do this?  Thank you

@jeffsam316,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

The graphics performance of an AMD Radeon HD 5570 is horrible: even the Intel HD Graphics 630 integrated graphics (iGPU) of your 7th gen processor easily outperforms it: UserBenchmark: AMD Radeon HD 5570 vs Intel UHD Graphics 630 (Desktop Coffee Lake i5 i7).

There is no such thing as a USB pluggable video card to hook up monitors.

I would invest some money in a decent graphics card if I were you, and depending on your budget, I would also consider upgrading your power supply to accommodate it.

For example, here is a low-profile GTX 1050 Ti example, fitted with two HDMI and two DisplayPort (DP) video outputs: Amazon.com: GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3050 OC Low Profile 6G Graphics Card, 2X WINDFORCE Fans, 6GB GDDR6 ....

This card requires a 250-watt power supply, which, if needed, is readily available via eBay, with p/n: L08417-004.

There are also two additional compatible power supply upgrades in case you ever needed them:

400-watt power supply with p/n: 942332-001
500-watt power supply with p/n: L77487-003

Kind Regards,

Hi Nonsequitur777,

I wanted to ask you a question as I recently bought a HPz440 and you may be one of the few people who were in the position that I am currently in. I understand this is the wrong forum post to reply on, but since that one is so old I wanted to message here to hopefully get a reply here so I hope you can forgive me.

My cpu is currently a xeon 1660v3 and I would like to upgrade to an intel core i7 6900k specifically for gaming. My questions are:

-My HPz440 has 32GB RAM (quad) at 2133 Mhz. The i7 6900k can handle up to 2400Mhz. Would the change from my current cpu to the i7 be wasted by my lack of optimised RAM?
-Also, how did the i7 6900k run for you? Was there any issues you ran into?

hope to hear from you soon

yours truly,

@Sideshowbob10,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Eh, no worries. This discussion thread is as good as anything in my opinion, since (A) Only one-in-ten of the OPs (on a good day) even bother to respond to my input anyway, (B) it is difficult for "New Members" to message experts such as myself, and (C) the idea -for me at least, is to provide the best possible feedback no matter where it plays out.

But I digressed.

Yes, the HP Z440 Workstation was one of my most successful upgrade projects, for sure.  This platform keeps coming up, with this discussion thread being the most recent.

The difference between 2133 MHz and 2400 MHz RAM is not that great, and I wouldn't worry about it.

You are correct, the i7-6900K would definitely make a better gaming processor than the Xeon E5-1660 v3.

When you pair an i7-6900K with at least 32GB quad running RAM, a decent graphics card and using an M.2 NVMe SSD as your primary (boot) drive (and even with a second M.2 NVMe SSD), gaming performance will not disappoint, as you can see with my UserBenchmark scores: HP Z440 Workstation Performance Results - UserBenchmark.

hiya @NonSequitur77,

Glad to hear from you, and thank you for your thoughtful and welcoming response. Even hyperlinking for convenience does not go unnoticed. I actually was reading that recent post you linked last night and was surprised to see people were, like I, still using the HPZ440 for things like gaming.

I have placed the order for the i7 6900k, and will try not to stress about it working until it arrives. Apparently some people have issues with RAM compatibility, but from your OG post where you were putting the 6900k in it seems we both have the same stock RAM from that HPZ440 albeit I have 32GB instead of 64GB. Still quad channel though so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Would like to say that hundreds of people have stumbled across your posts after buying a z440 and you've provided a wealth of knowledge to even those ignorant to tech like myself, your advice is valued highly. For that sir, I thank you.

Edit: I realise that I didn't say which GPU I would be using, I have an rtx 3060ti. Do you think the i7 would pair well with this GPU?

If you'd like I will keep you posted on when it arrives,

yours faithfully,

@Sideshowbob10,

An RTX 3060 Ti is a mighty fine graphics card (average 130% performance ranking as per UserBenchmark) and will run/pair just fine with an i7-6900K!

Hiya @NonSequitur777,

The cpu arrived today, i’m currently cleaning it up and building up the courage to put it in my pc lol. I get so worried about these parts and how little fibres of cotton swab might cause a catastrophe but I’m definitely overthinking. I’ll have an update for you really soon.
