HP Z27N G2
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

Good day. I'd like to connect my new monitor HP Z27n G2 to my MacBook Pro 13 2018 via USB-C cable to provide either video and USB hub. Which cable should I use? Tried OEM USB-C - USB-C from Apple and nothing working.

I do not have that particular Thunderbolt 3 cable but I tested another TB3 cable I have and it worked from my MacBook Pro 13" w/ touchbar.

The USB-C port on the monitor is using USB-C Alt mode to carry a DisplayPort signal to the monitor.  The macOS will just see it as a DisplayPort connection.  If the Belkin Dock support USB-C alt mode for carrying video it should work fine.

While I may work for HP Inc, the views and opinions expressed here are my own.

If by OEM you mean the USB-C cable that came with your MacBook Pro then that cable only carries power.  It does not carry data.  You will need to buy a USB-C to USB-C cable or a Thnderbolt 3 cable that is rated for data.  I would not get anything rated below USB 3.1 just to future proof your purchase.

Thanks for help!

This one would be ok?

And another one question - is it ok to connect this monitor to Mac through Belkin Thunderbolt 3 dock station?

I had the same issue and specifically bought a 20Gbps Thunderbolt 3 USB-C cable, but it's not working. Can you point me to a cable that is supported that I can buy?

I bought OEM Apple usb-c thunderbolt 3 cable 0,8m and it works perfect with my MacBook 13 pro 2018 and this monitor.

I've now discovered that there is a "Power Save mode" that is enabled by default, which disables USB-C Video. It's riciculous that this isn't mentioned, surely lots of people encounter this problem

Hi all,

I just called Apple support and they asked me to reset the System Management Controller and it worked. My 2018 macbook pro successfully connected to the Z27using a Belkin Thunderbolt 3 USB 3.1.
