We have a VGA to Display Port and whenever we turn it on it goes straight to sleep and if we press and button on the moniter whether it be the menu or auto it goes to sleep instead of showing the screen. The computer we're using is reaing the VGA, but the moniter wont show anything. Please help.

Hi @HQHooligan22,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop is having trouble connecting to a monitor and displays a "going to sleep" message when you press a button, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.
- Check the physical connections: Ensure that the cables connecting your laptop to the monitor are securely plugged in on both ends. Sometimes loose or improperly connected cables can cause display issues.
- Adjust power settings: It's possible that your laptop's power settings are causing it to go to sleep when it's connected to an external monitor. To change the power settings, go to the Control Panel or Settings on your laptop and navigate to the Power Options. Look for any settings related to sleep or power-saving modes and adjust them accordingly.
- Update graphics drivers: Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can cause display problems. Visit the HP support website and search for the drivers for your specific laptop model. Download and install the latest graphics drivers and see if that resolves the issue.
- Try a different cable or port: If you have access to another HDMI, VGA, or DisplayPort cable, try using it to connect your laptop to the monitor. Additionally, if your laptop has multiple video output ports, such as HDMI and VGA, try connecting to a different port on your laptop or a different input port on the monitor.
- Test with a different monitor: If possible, try connecting your laptop to a different monitor or TV to see if the issue persists. This will help determine whether the problem lies with the laptop or the original monitor.
- Restart the laptop and monitor: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches. Turn off both your laptop and the monitor, then power them back on and attempt to connect again.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
