Hi @eddieM7,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP monitor is displaying a grayscale image, it could be due to several reasons such as accidental activation of a color filter, changes in accessibility settings, or even a hardware issue. Here are steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue.
Check Windows Color Filters
- Windows 10/11:
- Press Win + I to open the Settings.
- Go to Ease of Access (or Accessibility in some versions).
- Click on Color filters in the left menu.
- Ensure that the Turn on color filters toggle is set to Off.
- If the toggle is on, turn it off. If it’s already off, try toggling it on and then off again.
Check Display Settings
- Windows 10/11:
- Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
- Scroll down and click on Advanced display settings.
- Click on Display adapter properties for Display 1 (or the respective display number).
- Go to the Color Management tab and click on Color Management.
- In the new window, go to the Advanced tab.
- Ensure that the settings are set to default. You can click on Change system defaults and make sure the color profile is correctly set.
Check Graphics Card Settings
NVIDIA Graphics:
- Right-click on the desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Under Display, select Adjust desktop color settings.
- Make sure that the settings such as Digital Vibrance and Color are set to default values.
AMD Graphics:
- Right-click on the desktop and select AMD Radeon Settings.
- Go to Display.
- Ensure that the color settings are at default.
Check Monitor Settings
- Physical Monitor Buttons:
- Use the buttons on your monitor to access the on-screen display (OSD) menu.
- Navigate to the Color or Picture settings.
- Make sure the color mode is set to standard or default. Avoid modes like grayscale or reading mode.

Reset Display Settings to Default
- Windows 10/11:
- Press Win + I to open Settings.
- Go to System > Display.
- Scroll down and click on Advanced display settings.
- Select Display adapter properties for Display 1.
- In the Adapter tab, click on Properties.
- Go to the Driver tab and click on Roll Back Driver if the option is available.
- Alternatively, click on Uninstall Device and restart your computer. Windows will reinstall the display driver automatically.
Check for Updates
Update Display Drivers:
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Display adapters section.
- Right-click on your graphics card and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
Windows Update:
- Press Win + I to open Settings.
- Go to Update & Security.
- Click on Check for updates and install any available updates.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, consider checking your monitor on a different computer to rule out a hardware defect.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
