Okay so I recently purchased a new HP desktop and monitor, but the cord that connects from the monitor to the computer (I think this is called a vga?) doesn't fit or I guess isn't compatible.
The Desktop I ordered is a HP ENVY 750 Desktop PC P5Q80AV#ABA_1
This is what the back of it looks like and I'm assuming the circled part is where I would plug the monitor cord into the computer?
The Monitor is a HP Pavilion 23xw 23-inch IPS LED Backlit Monitor J7Y75AA#ABA
This is the cord
Am I missing something here, or do I need to return this and purchase a different monitor? Or can I get something else that will connect the monitor to the computer?
I apologize if this sounds dumb, I'm just not tech savy at all.

Your graphics card has HDMI, it appears that your monitor does also.
So you can use an HDMI cord to connect your PC to your monitor.
Or you will need a VGA [Female] to DVI [Male] adapter.
The top connector is DVI-D [Dual Link] and will only support digital displays.
The bottom connector is DVI-I [Dual Link] and will support either an analog or digital display.

I tried connecting a HDMl cord from the monitor to the computer and when I turn on my monitor, the screen is black and just says 'Check Video Cable!'
Thank you for the reply though. I'll look into adapters.

You need to change the 'input' to HDMI.
From the manual: "The inputs can be selected by pressing the Input button on the side panel or through the On-Screen Display (OSD) feature by pressing the Menu button."

I tried selecting the buttons on the monitor, but it seems no matter what I do, the monitor won't display anything but a black screen with the words 'Check Video Cable'
Oddly, I did get the monitor to work just fine with a HDMI cord on my old computer by selecting one of the buttons on the monitor (and it also said 'Check Video Cable' before I got it to work)
But I do the same thing with this computer and nothing happens.
I'm wondering if it's just not going to work unless I get an adapter or there's some sort of problem with the desktop not booting up properly(maybe that's why the monitor's not displaying anything?) It's brand new and I haven't gotten to use at all yet. The power button on the computer lights up and it sounds like it's booting up, but it is rather quiet(idk if that means anything)
