Well this is the second time because you have a great modifier that allows to automatically mark people that take the time to login and create an account and ask a question so they can mark it as spam! I see we’re off to a fine start in HP community for me. That is!

I have this monitor that I cannot get the large volume screen off. As I will post a picture of. I’ve tried many things through bios, changing chords, and no avail! In fact, bios, VGA is grayed out even though that’s what’s making my monitor run?🤔

 I know it’s the firmware that’s inside the monitor. is there any possible solutions that anyone knows to fix this?

thank you again for second time!
thank you!

@Trytofixit73,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

It looks like what you’re seeing is the on-screen display (OSD) “volume” overlay stuck on the monitor. This usually isn’t a BIOS or cable problem -it’s almost always related to the monitor’s own firmware or OSD button controls.

A few things you can try:

  1. Check the monitor’s control buttons
    – Sometimes a stuck or faulty volume button on the monitor will keep the OSD on screen. Try pressing each physical button firmly a few times.
    – If the button is stuck, gently wiggle it or use a can of compressed air to clear debris.

  2. Perform a factory reset from the OSD menu
    – If you can still access the menu, navigate to Menu → Management → Factory Reset.
    – This clears firmware glitches and restores defaults.

  3. Power cycle the monitor
    – Unplug the monitor from power and disconnect all cables.
    – Hold down the monitor’s power button for 15–20 seconds.
    – Reconnect only power, turn it on, then reconnect video after boot.

  4. Firmware update (if applicable/available)
    – Many monitors have firmware that can be updated. Let me know what exact monitor model you got.

  5. Service scenario
    – If the OSD overlay persists even after reset and the buttons don’t respond, it may be a hardware fault with the OSD button board inside the monitor. In that case, the only permanent solution is repair or replacement.

Bottom line: This issue is almost never caused by BIOS or video cables. It’s coming from the monitor’s own controls/firmware. Try the reset and button checks first -if those fail, the monitor likely needs service or wants to retire.

Thank you for the reply. I’ve had it disappear before ,but I just recently moved it into my office and hooked everything back up & there it is again. Haunting.   I done every option except take it apart and manually look over the buttons.
ps . Holding menu 10 seconds nothing, pushing the power or the holding the power nothing happens.  Only thing I do notice is when I’m shutting down the screen says going to sleep and will keep turning on then shutting off again even when computer is off. 🤔.  So just keep it unplugged.

Ok. First I want to say thank you. I took the shop air hose and throughly blew it out as well as my key board while I was there.why not) . While it was on and it was still there on screen & went to put it away and came back. Went into windows control panel and turned off hibernation permanently. And I looked it was gone! Hallelujah!

so it was either turning hibernation off or delayed reaction from blowing out monitor with the air hose?

thank you again sometimes it’s the little things and not that deep!

I finally found the root cause. First thank you for helping out.

what it was a “bad button”.  <Auto > one to be exact. I got to last of retracing my steps and the very last thing was blowing out with air hose was the auto button. Every time ,the slightest bump volume screen would come back up.

future note to self next monitor “ power on and off “ button only…🤣🤣🤣💯💯

@Trytofixit73,

What can I say: 'you tried to fix it', and you succeeded! 😄

Good to know that my: "Sometimes a stuck or faulty volume button on the monitor will keep the OSD on screen" helped you along.
