@drttrayblox10, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand your HP 14-bs045na laptop shows a black screen even though the power and charging lights are on. Let's walk through some steps to help resolve this issue.

Perform a Hard Reset

This helps clear any temporary hardware or firmware glitches.

  1. Turn off the laptop completely.
  2. Unplug the AC adapter and remove any external devices (USBs, printers, etc.).
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the AC adapter (leave the battery if it's non-removable).
  5. Press the Power button to turn it back on.

Test with an External Monitor

This checks if the issue is with the laptop screen or the graphics system.

  1. Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV using HDMI or VGA.
  2. Power on the laptop.
  3. Press F4 (or Fn + F4) to toggle the display between the laptop and external screen.

If the external monitor works, the issue may be with your laptop's display panel or backlight.

BIOS or Display Driver Issue

If you briefly see the HP logo or BIOS screen before it goes black:

  • Try booting into Safe Mode by pressing F8 repeatedly after powering on.
  • If successful, update your graphics drivers and BIOS from HP support site. Official HP® Support

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

If the screen remains black, try running a diagnostic test:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  3. Run the Display Test.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
