HP Slimline Desktop 270-p014
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP Slimline Desktop 270-p014 and an ACER S271HL monitor.

When I turn on my computer the montor screen is black with a floating blue box that reads:

Input Not Supported

When I reboot in safe mode Windows loads and everything shows up correctly on the monitor.

When I used the same monitor with my Samsung 940X Notebook the monitor worked fine.

I see the monitor supports VGA abd HDMI inputs, which are also available on the desktop.  The message "Input Not Supported" usually means the resolution that is set in Windows does not match the resolution the monitor recognizes.  That type of problem shows up more often when HDMI is being used and the output is not set for 1920 x 1080 resolution.

It could also be a refresh rate set in Windows is not recognized by the monitor. Standard Refresh Rate: 60 Hz for the monitor.

Thank you for the reply but that did not fix the issue.

I changed the resolution to 1920 x 1080 and the refresh rate to 60 Hz then restarted and I received the same error.

Any other suggestions?

To clarify - the monitor is connected via HDMI and the resolution is set in Windows as 1920 x 1080 and the refresh rate to 60 Hz ?

As a troubleshooting step, try using the VGA connection instead of HDMI

Similar problem to the one being discussed here: New W10 Envy 360 connected to HP x20LED monitor, floating error message "Input Not Support" (sic), superposed atop an otherwise-perfect display of what's on the Envy screen.   Spec on that monitor is 1600x900, so I changed display setting on Envy to that, but nothing changed on the monitor -- still shows the Envy screen perfectly, except for the floating error box.    Can you help?

the HP x20LED supports DVI-D  and VGA.  Which connection is being used?  There are many models of the Envy 360 line but the one I checked has only a HDMI output for external monitor.  How is the monitor connected?

I got an adapter, VGA to HDMI.   Works fine except for the  floating message.

Just looked  up DVI vs HDMI in internet... is it  possible the problem is with the adapter?  There is indeed only an HDMI port on the Envy 360 I have, so some sort of adapter is required to mate with the monitor.  Is there something yet more that I do not understand about this mysterious process?

It could very well be the adapter.  VGA is analog while the DVI is digital and the HDMI is digital.  Depending on the adapter but DVI to HDMI is a much more practical than trying to convert the VGA to HDMI.

I've tried a couple of HDMI-to-VGA adapters, including one made by HP, to connect the HDMI from the Envy to the HP monitor, and neither worked.  I'm hoping for some further wisdom from the HP employees who have gotten involved, but what you said is intriguing -- I do have a DVI input port on the monitor ... should I perhaps get a DVI-to-HDMI cable? I'd never heard of DVI before.
