I would at least give the HDMI to DVI at try.  This one is inexpensive for a try

The other possibility is to connect a TV that has HDMI input to see if that works as expected instead of the monitor.  Keep in mind that TV's do not tolerate the wrong resolution very well,  so the resolution needs to be 720 ( 1280×720 ) or 1080 ( 1920x1080 )
