My HP Envy Desktop 795-0030tx CTO recently ran windows 10 updates in Nov 2024 and promptly crashed. I've been getting tech support from microsoft. their tech told me that the reason i'm now having trouble is because there is no graphics update available for the pc and so it will be slow from now on. the pc is 4 yrs old and I can't afford to buy a new one. Is there any way to upgrade the graphics in this pc or else get the manufacturer to provide a driver update?
thanks

Welcome to our HP Community forum!
I need to know a little bit more about your desktop. The specs associated with your HP ENVY Desktop - 795-0030xt CTO (6XQ71AV) are somewhat confusing: your PC is either fitted with a 310, 400, or 500-watt power supply. Which one do you have?
Likewise, your PC was either fitted with a GTX 1050 Ti, RTX 2080, GTX 1660, GTX 1660 Ti, or an RTX 2060. Which one do you have?
Ditto with your processor: either an i7-8700, i5-9400, or an i7-9700. What processor do you have?
Kind Regards,

Hi, Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. Here is a list of the specs according to the email confirming the order of this pc. let me know if you need more / other info and how i can find it.
I had a lot of trouble after running windows updates in early Nov, and microsoft says my drivers need updated and they can't find any available. Sepcifically they say i need the graphics driver and the BIOS/Frame-related driver.
thanks

Thank you: this is indeed all the system information I needed.
Your PC has quite a few years of life in it and could be further upgraded with a faster processor and a better graphics card if you so choose.
In any regards, your desktop should run just fine, and it has more than sufficient graphics power available to play your games at least in mid to high settings in 1080P. Meaning, the technician is lying through his teeth when stating, quote: "there is no graphics update available for the pc". Balderdash. For example, you could painlessly upgrade your graphics card to a smaller-sized (dual fan) RTX 4060, such as this model: https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-DisplayPort-Axial-tech-Technology-Auto-Extreme/dp/B0CVPDY3HN/ref=sr_1_1?....
But before you would even consider the aforementioned GPU upgrade, this is what I want you to do first: apply all the optimizations the very skilled Panjno recommends in this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkJBDEDDS5o&t=1447s&ab_channel=Panjno.
Don't worry about Windows 10: all these enhancements apply to W11 too.
One thing: at timestamp 17:20 Panjno says to enter seven f's, but that should be eight f's: ffffffff.
Please do so and report back.

Hi again,
I think you misunderstood; the tech told me I need to update the driver not the actual graphics card. he also said I needed to update the BIOS/Frame-related driver neither of which seem to be available on HP's website - at least that he could find.
I don't use the pc for gaming. I'm a photographer and us it mainly to edit my photos with Photoshop and to do things such as printing cards, keeping track of my inventory, etc.
he also said that my drivers are no longer compatible with windows 10 since the November update and that I could either buy a new pc or reinstall the OS, which when you think about it if the drivers are no longer compatible with windows 10 then reinstalling the OS wouldn't work. either way I lose critical apps that I can't replace along with the apps' data, and I would have to copy well over 100,000 photos to an external drive or a new pc which amounts to at least a couple of months of work as each photo would have to be verified after being copied over.
I don't really think i need a new pc as this one has at least 4 times the amount of resources required for windows 11. I think they are just trying their best to not take any responsibility for messing up my computer with their updates.
Anyway sorry to ramble. Is there any way to get the drivers mentioned above?
thanks

The optimization link I provided does much more than being relevant for gaming -it will assist to get your PC up and going to the best of its performance abilities. I assumed that is what you want, right?
I guess I don't understand this talking about 'there are no current [HP] drivers available' for your graphics card.
It is altogether completely irrelevant if HP has any current graphics drivers available for your GTX 1660 Ti or not, since you need the current Nvidia driver for your GPU, NOT any HP surrogate graphics driver.
What I would do is this: download the CURRENT Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti driver from here -do not install it yet: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/results/237719/.
Next, download and run this most useful (freeware) utility program called "DDU" (Display Driver Uninstaller") from here: https://www.guru3d.com/download/display-driver-uninstaller-download/. If you have never heard about this program &/or need some assistance what to do, please watch this YouTube DDU instructional video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxwDPu_hOD4&t=39s&ab_channel=RobeytechLive.
Look, I have been doing this for a while. I really want to help you. I have little no patience with so-called techs who have no clue what they are saying/doing, unless they are merely trying to covertly discourage you from fixing/optimizing your current PC and want to sell you a new computer.
Anyway, once you have run DDU, install just the graphics driver (not the whole Nvidia "Studio" install, just the 'game ready driver') -and btw, forget about 'gaming' if this turns you off, this is about getting you the correct lean-and-mean and up-to-date graphics card driver you actually need.
Next, type in: device manager, and check your "Monitors", like this using the PC I am working with at the moment:
If it says "Generic" in any way or form, you'll need to download your monitor's driver. For example, I am using an Acer EI322QUR P monitor, and I downloaded its driver from here. What I am saying is that most of the time, there is a specific monitor driver provided by your monitor's manufacturer. Once you got this driver downloaded and have extracted the file(s), right-click on the monitor name:
Then left-click on Update driver, then click on Browse my computer for drivers, then click on Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer, then click on Have Disk..., then on Browse..., and locate the monitor driver(s) you have just downloaded, likely in your Downloads folder. Then highlight the driver that your PC recognizes, click on Open, then OK, then Next, and you should see the message: Windows has successfully updated your drivers, then Close.
Kind Regards,

Thanks for all the info. I'm tied up for the rest of the week but hopefully i can do this over the weekend. I'll get back to with the results!
BTW, I'm pretty sure that is their ulterior motive - to get me to buy a new pc.

HI,
sorry it's taken me so long. I just looked at the monitor in Device Manager and it lists the name of my monitor (Dell SR2320L_HDMI) so that means I don't have to download the driver for that correct?
thanks

Affirmative, as long as it isn't preceded with the word "Generic".
If it does, go to: Support for Dell SR2320L | Drivers & Downloads | Dell US, and (re)install the driver.
