Hi

I have connected my 1st monitor (M27fw) using the hdmi cable on the back of the monitor into the only hdmi port on my computer and it works fine BUT when I try and connect my 2nd monitor using the hdmi port on the monitor to the vga port on the computer it does not work. I tried to connect the 1st monitor also using the vga but that does not work either

I just ordered a vga to vga cable in the hope that that will connect.  If that is incorrect, could you let me know what cable or adapter I need to buy to enable me to be able to connect my 2nd monitor and extend my screens?!

Thank you

Your VGA cable will work fine. HP has a description of various types of cables here

https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/tech-takes/top-advantages-dvi-vs-vga-for-computer-monitors

but a more telling writeup is over at toms hardware

Another option would have been to use the Wi-Fi capabilities of your TP01 to connect to your monitor with a "4k" or "2k"  wireless adapter.  The cable is cheaper and for gaming Wi-Fi has a lag that is unacceptable.
