I have a new MacBook Pro. I have a HP ZDisplay that worked well with my prior Mac BookPro  I purchased a new cable to hook up to my computer via HDMI port on my computer. I can not make the computer communicate with the display. I have view the system option for Displays and it is not showing  up as a display. What is the way to make this display work with my new Mac

Hi @AlaskanTres ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To resolve the issue of your HP ZDisplay not being recognized by your new MacBook Pro, you can try the following steps:

  1. Check Connections: Ensure that all cables are properly connected. Double-check that the HDMI cable is securely connected to both the MacBook Pro and the HP ZDisplay.

  2. Use the Correct Adapter: If your MacBook Pro does not have an HDMI port, make sure you're using the appropriate USB-C to HDMI adapter. Not all adapters support video transmission.

  3. Set the Correct Input Source: Use the buttons on your HP ZDisplay to access the on-screen menu and ensure it is set to the correct input source (HDMI).

  4. Update System Software: Make sure that your macOS is up to date. Occasionally, updates include fixes for external display issues.

  5. Detect Displays Manually:

    • Go to System Preferences > Displays.
    • Hold the "Option" key and click the "Detect Displays" button. This can force detection.
  6. Check Display Resolution: Sometimes incorrect resolution settings can cause display issues. Adjust the display settings to ensure compatibility.

  7. Test with Another Cable or Port: Use a different HDMI cable or try a different port, if available, to rule out a faulty cable or port.

  8. Restart Both Devices: Power cycle both your MacBook Pro and the HP ZDisplay. Restart your computer and unplug the display for a few moments before reconnecting.

If you have gone through all these steps and the display is still not working, there might be an issue with the display or the cable itself. Consider testing the display with another device or using a different cable to confirm where the problem lies.

Hope this helps resolve your issue.
