My laptop does not detect my second monitor on HDMI to DVI cable. After booting up my computer, the only way I can get the second monitor to work is by disconnecting the HDMI cable from my laptop and then plugging it back in again. I would like to be able to force the laptop to look for monitor on the HDMI connector but when I use the display detect feature it does not identify the second monitor.

Please try a trick to put external display (ie Display 2) and main display and display 1 (notebook screen) as secondary. Windows will use Display 2 first therefore you can close the lid and you will get external display.
Machine will automatically use its screen when no external screen around.
Regards.

The tip to designate monitor 2 as the primary monitor did not work for my problem. When I boot up my computer, it frequently does not see monitor 2 at all. After I unplug and replug in the HDMI connector the laptop frequently recognizes monitor 2. My laptop does assign monitor 2 as the primary monitor based on recommended change.
