macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I've got a new Hp27F screen, got myself a HDMI to mini display port cable. Get home, plug it in and the macbook won't recognise the monitors. When plugged in all channels say "Inactive"

My macbook connects fine to my LG tv using the cable so issue is not the cable or laptop. My PC connects to the monitor fine using hdmi > hdmi. So why doesn't my macbook connect to this screen?

Any help appreciate starting to loose my mind troubleshooting!

@Haz14 Here's a few things you need to know when using an HP monitor with a Mac device:

HP monitors are not supported in a Mac environment. However, newer Macs use graphics with VESA modes and can display to most HP LCD monitors.

  • To do this, connect the monitor to the Mac while the Mac is off, and then turn on the MAC.
  • The monitor should operate at 60Hz.The INF and software for the HP monitor are for Microsoft Windows and cannot be run in a standard MAC OS environment.
