Monitor brightness keeps changing and can't be adjusted

Hi.

I have a 27" Quantum Dot monitor, connected via USB-C to a Macbook Pro running Catalina. I can't adjust the brightness using the on-screen controls (it just shows as grayed-out), and it keeps automatically-adjusting to too dark. Worse, it has started flickering, with the brightness gradually increasing, only to immediately darken. I tried installing Lunar, which is a 3rd-party display manager, but it also couldn;t adjust the brightness - it kept switching back to dark.

@ascorbic Here's a few things you need to know when using an HP monitor with a Mac device:

HP monitors are not supported in a Mac environment. However, newer Macs use graphics with VESA modes and can display to most HP LCD monitors.

• To do this, connect the monitor to the Mac while the Mac is off, and then turn on the MAC.
• The monitor should operate at 60Hz.The INF and software for the HP monitor are for Microsoft Windows and cannot be run in a standard MAC OS environment.

Thanks, but this did not help. However I've managed to fix this myself. For the benefit of anyone reading this, the answer is to disable HDR in System Preferences > Displays. This allows you to set the brightness etc on the monitor without it overriding it.
