Monitor turns on goes to desk top and then goes blank.

Hp w1907
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

It's a Hp w1907 LCD monitor, It's hooked up to my pc's dvi port. When i start windows my moniter wakes from sleep then turns on for about a second then goes to a blank black screen, I was able to get it working by repeatedly turning it on and off for 3 minutes, i dont want to do that every time i want to use the computer. Things i have tried are, Setting to factory defaults once i was able to keep it on for long enough to do so. Unplugging it from power then holding down the power button for 1 minute.

another is unplugging the DVI and plugging it back in.

Hopefully this could get fixed, I know its a older model but i need it so i can do work at home.

@Avery12 Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the  Monitor turns on goes to the desktop and then goes blank.

step 1: If you can see the initial HP or Compaq logo screen but later lose the picture, you can skip to Step 2.

Otherwise, check the video cable connection on the back of the computer and on the monitor. Make sure that it is connected properly and the connecting screws are tight. Turn the monitor off and then back on again (while the computer is on) to see if an image appears.

Some Flat Panel monitors have two similar power input connections placed side-by-side on the back of the monitor, which sometimes allows them to get confused for one another. One connector is used to supply power to the speakers with a separate power cord, while the other connector is used for the monitor's power adapter.

Ensure that you have the monitor power adapter cord plugged into the power connector and not the speaker connector.

After you have reconnected the power cord, turn on the monitor (while the computer is on) to see if an image appears. If there is still no image, continue to the next Step.

  1. Power connection for audio speakers

  2. Power connection for the monitor

Step 2: Resetting the monitor

At first setup, or under certain signal conditions, the monitor may not be able to switch to a new display resolution. Do NOT shut down or restart the computer. Instead, perform the following steps:

  1. Turn off the monitor using the Power button on the front.

  2. If the Power button does not respond, unplug the power cord from the back of monitor and wait five seconds.

  3. Plug the power cord back in.
