Microsoft Windows 11

I don't have many details other than the display colors on my laptop suck and it makes it hard to see anything. The blacks look grayish blue and everything looks crappy and washed out.

Hi @lsnyder51,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your laptop screen colors look washed out, with blacks appearing grayish-blue, making it hard to see anything clearly. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check the Display Brightness and Night Light Settings

Go to Settings → System → Display.

Make sure Brightness is set correctly and Night Light is turned off, as this can make colors appear warm or washed out.

Verify Color Profile and Calibration

Go to Settings → System → Display → Advanced Display Settings → Color Profile.

Make sure your laptop is using the recommended color profile (usually sRGB).

You can also use the Calibrate Display Color tool to adjust gamma, brightness, contrast, and color balance.

Update or Reinstall Graphics Drivers

Open Device Manager → Display Adapters → right-click your GPU → Update Driver.

Outdated or corrupt drivers can cause washed-out colors.

Check for External Software Effects

Some apps like f.lux, screen recorders, or third-party monitor calibration tools can override display colors.

Temporarily disable these and see if the colors improve.

Test with an External Monitor

Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV.

If colors look normal on the external display, the issue is likely with the laptop panel itself or its internal settings.

Reset Display Settings

Go to Settings → System → Display → Advanced Display Settings → Display Adapter Properties → Color Management → Advanced → Change Defaults.

Resetting to default settings can often fix washed-out colors caused by custom profiles.

I hope this helps.
