I have had the laptop for about 2 years now and never really had a problem with it now it’s acting up and I’m not sure why

@Devion1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding a Black Screen on a Laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect all external devices (printer, scanner, USB devices, etc.).
  • Remove the power cord and battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord and battery, then turn on your laptop.

Check Display Functionality:

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor using an HDMI or VGA cable to see if the display works on the external monitor. If it does, the issue may be with the laptop's screen rather than the graphics card.

Inspect Hardware Connections:

  • Ensure that the laptop's display cable (inside the laptop) is securely connected if you're comfortable opening the device. If not, consider consulting a professional technician.

Boot in Safe Mode:

  • Restart the laptop and repeatedly press the F8 key (or the appropriate key for your laptop) until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears.
  • Select "Safe Mode" to see if the laptop boots successfully with limited drivers.

Update or Roll Back Graphics Driver:

  • Access Device Manager in Safe Mode (if display is working there).
  • Update the graphics drivers if they are outdated, or roll back to a previous driver version that worked well.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
