I have the same and it is in not Windows but in z27 monitor. When the screen is turned off or goes to sleep dynamic contrast is activated again by it self.  I'm surprised there is no proper reply here from HP on how to fix with so many users facing this issue?

My short term fix is simply to go into "viewing mode" menu and on the z27 and just exit without selecting anything and dynamic contrast will switched off again. It's enjoying since it's back on after sleep every time but takes 2 seconds...

@Aderic, I am currently doing the exact same as you described, and also keep my monitor on always to avoid such re-configuration. Very annoying and inconvenient t the end user and HP doesn't offer anything to fix. I have another Z27 4K luckily it doesn't have the same problem.

I have exact same problem. I am using mac with two monitors.  On automatically dims even though I am changing the disabling the dynamic contrast from the menu. Whenever, the monitor goes sleep the same settings came again. HP developers, why do you put that option it doesn't affect. Are you just testing without closing the monitor.

This is the second time, I am having an HP product. Over the years it seems nothing changed. **bleep** product with stunning specification on the paper.

Me too. It is definitely not an OS (let alone Windows) or driver problem, because the same happens when I'm using it on my Linux box.

The monitor simply forgets the Dynamic Contrast setting when it's turned off. It does remember the other settings as far as I'm aware.

Contrary to what Mlacayo writes, in my case it is not solved by setting Power Mode to Performance.

My FW is also LIM283. Can't this be fixed? I can see that for some monitors (like E243d) there is a firmware update on the site.

Looks like HP posted a firmware update to address the issue.  I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but the update seems aimed specifically at this issue.

Hi Dgrenker, I installed the update, it is indeed aimed at this issue and it works.

Thanks for letting us know and thanks to the HP technical people for fixing this.

Hi. I tried to install the firmware update but I'm getting an error (This update may not be applicable to your system. Please attach a USB cable from the HP Z27n G2 to your system and try again.). I used the USB c cable to connect my computer to the monitor. Am I doing it wrong? Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi JS,

Yes, I also used the usb-c cable that came with the monitor.

I'm not an expert, and the only things i can think of are:

  • Make sure you're using the cable that came with the monitor, not one belonging to e.g. a phone.
  • Make sure no other monitors are connected. via usb. Maybe it's a good idea to disconnect any usb devices that you don't need during the update.

But maybe somebody who knows more can chime in...

I also have an error during update (near 50%). What I am doing wrong? I tried multilpe times with different USB ports and getting the same error. I disconnected all USB devices, except mouse. I used the usb-c cable that came with the monitor as well: USB Type-C to the rear of the monitor and USB-A to the rear of motherboard (USB 3.1 port).IMG-20201114-WA0000.jpg

Ok, I got it. Diconnected all cables except power cable and USB Type-C. Connected USB-A cable to notebook and flashed from there.
