I just purchased a HP 23.8 inch all-in-one desktop pc cr-0114.   I have plugged in the:

   power cord

   keyboard (cord), and

   mouse (cord)

The system gives a series of loud beeps

Flashes what looks like program language quickly and then the screen goes black

I cannot get the screen to appear on the monitor that would guide me through further steps to setup.

Please help

@ameenah5, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Based on your description, the loud beeps and flashing screen followed by a black output suggest a hardware-level error occurring before the system can even boot to Windows or the setup screen. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you diagnose and resolve the issue:

Count the Beeps

HP uses beep codes to indicate hardware issues (e.g., RAM, CPU, display, etc.).

  • Count how many beeps you hear and whether they are long or short.
  • For example, 3 short beeps may indicate a memory error, while 5 beeps could signal a system board failure.

Power Cycle the PC

  • Disconnect the power cord.
  • Hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord and try turning it on again.

Perform a CMOS Reset (if possible)

Sometimes resetting the BIOS helps:

  • Look for a small CMOS battery (coin-cell battery) at the back if accessible.
  • Remove it for 1–2 minutes and then reinsert it. (Note: Some All-in-Ones require opening the back panel, which may void the warranty. Skip this if unsure.)

Check the Display

  • Shine a flashlight at an angle on the screen when it’s black. If you can faintly see the setup screen, the backlight or display cable might be faulty.
  • Try connecting an external monitor via HDMI (if the All-in-One has an HDMI out) to test if the system boots properly.

Reseat the RAM (if accessible)

  • If you’re comfortable opening the back panel:
    • Carefully remove and reinsert the RAM stick(s).
    • Power on the PC again.

If the issue persists, we suggest you please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
Kindly follow this link to locate the nearest HP service center: HP® Service Center Locator - United States | HP® Support

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
