HP Pavilion Desktop PC TP01-3000i (4M0K0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Purchased a Pavilion desktop. No boot on display. worked with HP support and they said defective and to return it. Did so and purchased another one. Same problem. New support person suggested trying VGA cable. That worked.

Why would HDMI port either be disabled or not functional on these desktops?

Am I missing a setting or something else I am supposed to turn on?

Thanks, Bob

Hi @bdh5574,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

There are a few potential reasons why the HDMI port on your HP Pavilion desktop might not be working, even though the VGA port does. Here are some troubleshooting steps and considerations to help resolve the issue.

Check BIOS/UEFI Settings

  • Access BIOS/UEFI: When you power on your computer, press the appropriate key (often F2, F10, DEL, or ESC) to enter the BIOS/UEFI setup.
  • Integrated Graphics Settings: Look for settings related to integrated graphics or display output. Ensure that the HDMI port is enabled.

Update Graphics Drivers

  • Windows Device Manager: Open Device Manager (right-click the Start button and select Device Manager).
  • Display Adapters: Expand the Display Adapters section and right-click on your graphics card. Select "Update driver" and choose to search automatically for updated driver software.

Check for Windows Updates

  • Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update: Ensure your system is fully updated with the latest patches and drivers from Microsoft.

Cable and Monitor Compatibility

  • HDMI Cable: Ensure the HDMI cable is functioning correctly by testing it with another device.
  • Monitor Input: Verify that the monitor is set to the correct input (HDMI) and that the HDMI port on the monitor is functioning by testing with another HDMI device.

Graphics Card vs. Integrated Graphics

  • Discrete GPU: If your Pavilion desktop has a discrete graphics card (like an NVIDIA or AMD card), ensure the HDMI cable is connected to the graphics card’s HDMI port, not the motherboard’s HDMI port.
  • Integrated Graphics: If you are using integrated graphics, the HDMI port on the motherboard should be used.

Operating System Display Settings

  • Display Settings: Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings". Check if the second monitor (connected via HDMI) is detected. If it is detected but not displaying, try changing the display mode (e.g., duplicate, extend).

Multiple Displays

  • Project Options: Press Windows + P and choose different projection modes such as "Duplicate" or "Extend" to see if the HDMI display activates.

By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose whether the issue is due to a software setting, driver, or hardware problem.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

  • Check BIOS/UEFI Settings -- There are no HDMI settings I could find in these settings.
  • Update Graphics Drivers - Updated.
  • Check for Windows Updates - up to date
  • Cable and Monitor Compatibility - HDMI Cable: Works on another device.
  • Monitor Input: Works when VGA or Auto selected. HDMI says No Input From Your Device
  • Integrated Graphics: HDMI port on the motherboard is being used.
  • Multiple displays are not being used.

This did not resolve my problem.
