- OMEN 27k: Disable or change KVM keyboard hotkey

Double pressing the CTRL key seems to be a built-in hotkey for the KVM functionality. I often trigger the sequence by mistake, which is very annoying. Disconnecting the keyboard is not an option as I'm using the monitor with my private desktop computer and a laptop for work.
Is there any possibility to disable or change the hotkey?

Hi @Alden4,
sadly the hotkey cannot be configured or deactivated in the OSD menu or in the HP Display Center. Nevertheless you reply pointed me in good direction. I've now disconnected the keyboard from the USB port dedicated to the keyboard and connected a USB Hub to the USB port dedicated to the mouse. The keyboard and mouse are now both plugged into the hub. The KVM switch doesn't listen to the keyboard hotkey on this port and my problem is solved.
Nevertheless, I would like to point out that there should at least be an option to deactivate the hotkey. As an embedded software engineer myself, I don't think it would be very complicated to implement something like this.

Hi @lircen,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The built-in KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) hotkey functionality of the OMEN by HP 27-inch UHD 144Hz Gaming Monitor is not user-configurable for disabling or changing hotkeys directly via the monitor's settings. However, here are some potential workarounds.
Check the Monitor OSD (On-Screen Display) Menu
- Access the OSD menu by pressing the monitor's control buttons.
- Look for KVM or hotkey configuration options under "Input," "System," or "KVM Settings."
- If there’s an option to disable or reconfigure the hotkey, you can do so there.
Use HP Display Center
- Install the HP Display Center software (if not already installed). It allows more granular control of your OMEN monitor.
- Check for KVM settings within the software to see if the hotkey can be modified.
Avoid Double-Pressing CTRL
While you cannot disable the hotkey directly, you could try using software solutions like AutoHotkey on Windows to remap or intercept double CTRL key presses to prevent accidental activation. Here's an example script:
; Disable double Ctrl keypress
~Ctrl::
KeyWait, Ctrl, D T0.3
If !ErrorLevel
Return
; Add any specific action if needed here
- Save the script as a .ahk file and run it using AutoHotkey.
Connect via Different Ports
- If the issue persists and is very disruptive, consider connecting your devices to separate input ports and switching manually using the monitor’s input selector, bypassing the KVM entirely
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
