HP TouchSmart 300 PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Screen resolution changed suddenly yesterday. Screen looks stretched out wide.

HP website says resolution should  be set to 1600x900, but that option is not available in settings.

I don't know why the resolution changed on me and can't find how to fix it.

Thank you

This is from another thread on this site and has worked for a number of us. Hope it helps you.

*Go to: Device Manager

*Click on "Display Adapters"

*Right click on... whatever the name is of your adapter. (Mine is ATI Radeon HD4200)

* Click on "Properties"

* In the window, click on "Driver"

*Click on "Roll Back Driver"

Then click on the "OK" or "Apply" button and voila.....it's back to normal.

Hi @MarkM1970,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

I reviewed your post and I understand that the screen resolution is changed after a recent Windows update.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • When was the last time the computer was working fine?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

Meanwhile, I recommend you update the bios, chipset and the graphics driver from the below link and check if it helps.

If you are using Windows 10- the recent upgrade is the cause. check for other threads that have solved the problem.

The computer was working fine on Friday, 11/24/17. Mid-day, the screen resolution changed and I have not been able to fix it. I used the HP Support Assistant to update drivers, etc. but it still is not working.

I just followed the link in your reply, but that did not do anything either.

If you can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,

I agree that it has to do with the recent update, but have not found any solution.

Thank you

Well.. I am just an avarage user. The rollback button is is "gray" for me. So I can't click hit. Maybe because earlier I tried to install driver again, I don´t know. I'm using Windows in Finnish so I think "Rollback" is same as "Aiempi ohjain" in Finnish 😉

Anyway, tryig to install driver didn't work for me, I cannot go back to previous driver (mine is at ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics) - so solution is not working for me 😞 This update should be done automatically bu HP.  If this have happened to my 70 old mother, she would not be here asking help.....
