Pavillion 510-p114
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My system was working fine for better than a year using an XFX RX-550 card in the PCI-E slot. However, for some reason, the system will no longer initialize any video card in the PCI-E slot. I can tell the video card is not being initialized because a monitor connected to any of the display connectors does not initialize. I can also tell the system is still working by letting the system come up and then connecting to the system remotely. The system can be connected to but will not display a video display on the remote system only a blank black screen.

I have tested the video card in another system and it works fine. I am sure the power to the PCIE slot is good since the video card fan still works even if the display is not initialized. I have also reset the BIOS on the machine to the default state with no improvement. The integrated graphics still work properly if the PCIE video card is removed.

This is a Windows 10 Home 64-bit version 1803. The system board is a Hamar board version 81B4.00. the BIOS is version F.34 (and of course you cant go back to an older version of the BIOS).

I am at my wits end trying to come up with any solution that doesn't involve rplacing the motherboard.

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand the video card connected to the PCIe Slot is no longer getting detected,

I'd like to thank you for the detailed description of your concern,

as you have ensured I don't have to ask any more questions, that said, I wish there was more I could do to help, however, you've pretty much summed it up and from the looks of it, I'm afraid this is the motherboard, that said, I respect your thoughts/opinions as well, which is why here's a link to the BIOS Recovery process: https://hp.care/2wxGBjx

And if the above link doesn't do the trick, you may want to get the motherboard repaired/replaced,

In case your device isn't covered by the warranty anymore is listed below:

You could purchase the part from HP, use the HP Parts surfer to identify the part: https://hp.care/2AjuDql

And order it via the HP Parts store: https://hp.care/2opJbTq

Or alternatively, Contact HP for setting up an order/service via phone support

HP Support can be reached by clicking on the following link:

1) Click on this link - https://hp.care/2moMFSc

2) Click on "Continue as guest".

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

If the unit is under warranty repair services under the manufacturer's warranty will be free of charge.

If you would like to thank me for my efforts to help you,

feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below,

Followed by clicking on the "Accept as solution".

Have a great day!

Hey I can finally log into this system today. I could not login at all yesterday. I tried the  fix that Riddle_Decipher gave for reloading the BIOS. It worked but not how I expected it to. I thought it would reload the original BIOS but it just reloaded the installed BIOS (F.34) probably from the backup area on the BIOS chip. So that tip was not really helpful, but interesting.I had a little problem getting to the BIOS reload function since it only seems to work with HP keyboards (or just with wired keybords) because it would not work ith a Logitech wireless keyboard. but thanks for that tip.

So my system is over a year old so I will have to pay for a new motherboard. I have to see how much that is going to cost. Hopefully less than what I paid for the system. Since there doesn't seem to be any further help coming, I will thank you after I complete this message.

Thank you for replying,

Please take your time and get back to me with the results, as there's nothing else I can do to help apart from what I already have, as this could be a hardware malfunction, perhaps, I could provide more information on the same (if need be).

Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,

It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.

BTW the parts store says that:

844848-601   This part is not yet available for purchase.
Motherboard - Hamar,Intel H170, WIN

So I guess I will get no help at all.

@Guy_Noir

Thank you for responding,

And not necessarily, you can always use the part number at local online stores such as eBay and others as the part numbers are universally accepted.

If the part isn't available at HP Parts Store, you can get the same locally instead,

Simply, google the part number and you'll see what I mean.
