Hi @Towens5,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for reaching out. If your daughter's HP laptop touchpad is not working and she can’t log in, here are some steps you can try to get it working again:

1. Try an External USB Mouse

  • Connect a USB mouse to the laptop.
  • This will help you navigate and troubleshoot further.

2. Enable Touchpad Using Keyboard Shortcut

  • On many HP laptops, the touchpad can be toggled on/off using:
    • Fn + F6Fn + F9, or Fn + F5 (look for a touchpad icon on the function keys).
  • Press the key combo once and wait a few seconds.

3. Check for Touchpad Disable Button

  • Some HP laptops have a small dot in the top-left corner of the touchpad.
  • Double-tap that corner to enable or disable the touchpad.

4. Access BIOS to Check Touchpad Settings

If she can’t log in:

  • Restart the laptop and press Esc repeatedly, then F10 to enter BIOS.
  • Look for Touchpad or Internal Pointing Device settings.
  • Make sure it’s enabled.
  • Save and exit.

5. Use On-Screen Keyboard to Log In

  • On the login screen, click the Ease of Access icon (bottom-right corner).
  • Select On-Screen Keyboard to type the password using the mouse.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
