HP Pavilion Gaming - TG01-0018
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP Pavilion Gaming - TG01-0018 pc and have tried connecting both my drawing tablet and desktop to it because manually switching them out was getting annoying, so I bought a USB C to HDMI adapter.

But whenever I try connecting either of the devices to it, it says 'signal not found'. Tried connecting them one at a time, too, no dice. I know there's no issue with the adapter since I used it to connect my iPad and drawing tablet (worked). I also updated my driver to make sure, and still nothing. I'm wondering if the USB C port (USB 3.1 gen 1) doesn't support DP alt?

I'm no good with tech so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your USB ports do not carry video

You could obtain a USB2/3 converter to HDMI but it will lag for games.

I am not sure what is being switched

I assume the drawing tablet has an LCD screen and take the place of the monitor.

There is probably no log since you are not gaming.   Get get a usb2/usb3 adapter to hdmi

something like this https://www.amazon.com/Tuliyet-Adapter-Multiple-Monitors-Compatible/dp/B0C9J8QX3Q

If your USB-C to HDMI connection isn't working, there could be several reasons for the issue. Here's a step-by-step troubleshooting guide to help you identify and resolve the problem:

1. Check Hardware Connections:

  • Ensure that both ends of the USB-C to HDMI cable are securely connected to the respective ports on your devices (e.g., laptop and monitor/TV).

2. Verify USB-C Port Compatibility:

  • Confirm that the USB-C port on your laptop or device supports video output. Not all USB-C ports have video capabilities; some are only for data or power.

3. Adapter and Cable Compatibility:

  • Ensure that the USB-C to HDMI adapter and cable are compatible with your devices. Some adapters may have specific compatibility requirements.

4. Power Supply:

  • Some USB-C to HDMI adapters require an external power source. Check if your adapter needs to be connected to a power supply and ensure it's properly powered.

5. Display Settings:

  • On your laptop, go to the display settings and check if the external display (HDMI) is recognized. Adjust the display mode, resolution, and orientation if needed.

6. Update Drivers:

  • Ensure that your laptop's graphics drivers are up-to-date. Visit the manufacturer's website or use the automatic update feature to install the latest drivers.

7. Restart Devices:

  • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Restart both your laptop and the external display.

8. Try Another HDMI Port:

  • If you are connecting to a TV or monitor with multiple HDMI ports, try connecting to a different port to rule out a faulty HDMI input.

9. Test with Another Cable/Adapter:

  • If possible, try using another USB-C to HDMI cable or adapter to see if the issue is with the current hardware.

10. Check HDMI Cable:

  • Verify that the HDMI cable is in good condition. A damaged cable can cause connectivity problems.

11. Compatibility with macOS:

  • If you are using a Mac, check whether the USB-C to HDMI adapter is compatible with macOS. Some adapters may require specific drivers for macOS compatibility.

12. Security Software:

  • In some cases, security software or firewalls can interfere with external display connections. Temporarily disable security software and check if the issue persists.

13. Check for Operating System Updates:

  • Ensure that your laptop's operating system is up-to-date. Check for and install any available updates.

If, after going through these steps, the issue persists, it may be helpful to consult the user manuals of your devices or contact the manufacturers' support for further assistance. They may provide specific guidance based on the make and model of your laptop, adapte , rand external display.
