Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, Just upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10.  All seems to work fine except I no longer get sound out of my sub woofer and Beats Audio adjustments have no impact on sound.  I am using the IDT High Definition Audio Codec driver.  I thought I did something wrong so I reverted back to 8.1 and everything was working properly.    Ran the Windows 10 upgrade again with the same results, Sub Woofer and Beats Audio not working.  The On Board speakers work fine.  I also did some exploring on various forums and sound issues seem to be a common problem with Windows 10. I also tried the High Defintion Audio driver and that just caused additional issues, i.e. Beats Audio and the Sub Woofer disappeared from my system. Hoping someone has found a solution.  Thanks!

go to search, type "update driver manager"

go to sound, "video and game controllers"

right click "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC" or whatever is the audio title is.

Go to Properties.

go to drivers and click update driver

Click browse my computer for driver software

then click "let me pick from a list of device..."

then what i did here, is first clicked "high definition audio device"

and then after that i restarted

after, the audio wasn't sounding like it use to so i redid everything from above but rather than picking "High definition Audio Device", I picked the latest "IDT High Definition Audio Codec".

So far, my audio is fine and never had a problem since.

Any other questions, just reply

goodluck.

Thank you for the reply...I also tried the process you recommended and it didn't fix the issue.  I have the following driver installed:

  • IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
  • Driver Provider: Tempo
  • Driver Date: 5/8/2015
  • Driver Version: 6.10.6404.0
  • Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibilty Publisher

I really appreciate the help!  Thanks again!

Dear OP j1960, I have experiencing the exact same situation as you where I've updated my system to Windows 10, bought a HP Pulse subwoofer but nothing comes out of the subwoofer. Have you found a solution to this so far?

Hey there!

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!

I understand that you have an audio issue with HP speakers.

Please try the steps mentioned below.

Go to device manager.

Go to sound video and game controller.

Select high definition sound device.

Right click properties go to driver tab then click on update driver,

Then click browse computer for driver software.

Go to second option stating let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

Click on high definition audio device, not the IDT audio codec.

Let me know if this helps.

Have a great day!

Thats the exact same advise everyone gives, but NO it does NOT solve the SUBWOOFER ISSUE! Gosh, same response since 2015 and even the same steps given in the same thread which has NOT solve the problem! lol gosh u guys! lets make this simple:

WINDOWS 8.1

SPEAKER = WORKING, no problem!

SUBWOOFER = WORKING, no problem!

IDT OR HIGH DEF AUDIO DRIVER DOES NOT MATTER, IT WORKS!

WINDOWS 10

SPEAKER = WORKING, no problem!

SUBWOOFER = NOT WORKING, THIS IS THE PROBLEM!

IDT DRIVER NOT WORKING, HIGH DEF AUDIO DRIVER, ONLY SPEAKER WORKING, NO SUBWOOFER SOUND

IMO = Windows 10 audio driver DONT SUPPORT SUBWOOFER 3.5MM JACK! Update codings please!

Thanks for the reply.

Please uninstall the audio driver from device manager.

Download 8.1 audio driver from hp.com and install the driver.

Let me know if this works.

Have a great day!

MrRobot,

I have done what you've asked but did not work. I've downloaded the drivers for Windows 8.1 (filename: 64642.exe) from HP support, but it did not let me install. It says "Your system does not meet the operating system requirements. Update has been cancelled. (9998)" - Made sense, I'm on Windows 10 but the driver is for Windows 8.1 so it doesn't let me install.

Here's another thing i did. Uninstalled all audio driver, downloaded and install the new IDT Audio Driver from HP Support (filename: SP71717.exe), all sounds are gone. Meaning, no sound from front built in speaker and also subwoofer.

So i still have to use the original High Definition driver which everyone recommends which works but...no sound from the subwoofer still.

Thanx for trying to help MrRobot.

Hey there! Thanks for the reply Bren,

I found an article from HP hope this helps, Please follow the steps.

The 2013IDT (Integrated Device Technology) audio does not work after the upgrade to Windows 10 is completed. This issue occurs due to the IDT audio driver is not supported by Windows 10.

The computer may exhibit one or more of the following symptoms:

  • A red X may appear on the IDT icon in the system tray.
  • Stereo Mix may not work and you may not be able to record audio that is played on the computer.
  • The DTS or Beats interface for customizing EQ's may not work. You must uninstall the DTS or Beats audio applications from the Control Panel > Programs and Features.
  • The DTS or Beats application may not install on the computer.
  • Communication headphones feature may not work.
  • Unable to choose the playback source for Skype and play music.
  • There is an audible noise when recording audio through the line-in jack on a docking station.
  • Function Key operation is lost.

The 2013 IDT driver is not supported on Windows 10. To resolve this issue, uninstall the IDT Audio driver. The audio device will work with the generic Windows 10 driver after the computer is restarted.

  1. Type Apps & features in the Search field on the Desktop.
  2. Tap or click Apps & features in the list of installed apps.
  3. Tap or click the IDT driver from the list.
  4. Tap or click Uninstall and follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the driver.
  5. Restart the computer when the uninstall has completed.

Let me know if this works.

Have a great day!

Hello Chetan, first of all thank you for your prompt reply assistance. Much appreciated.

Now, I have just uninstalled the IDT driver app and Beats app from the Apps & features as you've mentioned, and removed everything related to IDT i can find on my PC. Rebooted the PC and let Windows load its own generic drivers and the problem is still the same. Sound from the built in speakers but nothing from the subwoofer.

Oh no, i hope we dont get into a deadlock here.
