I am looking to purchase an HP all in one desktop. The two models I am looking at both have HDMI-in ports (as well as HDMI-out ports.
I will use the desktop most of the time but I have another laptop supplied for a job I do a couple of days a week. I need to be able to hook this laptop up to the larger display of the all in one.
Whenever I ask salespeople about this they say you cannot use it in this way, and there are contradictory opinions in the internet.
What is the right answer? I don’t want to fork out a lot of money only to find it doesn’t work the way I need it to. If the HDMI-in port doesn’t receive display why is it there? (Other manufacturers like ASUS clearly state that their ports do make it possible for other devices to be connected to their all in ones.)
Thanks everyone.

HP has many different AIO machines
- Some do not have HDMI port,
- Some have HDMI-out port,
- Some have HDMI-in port,
- Some have both.
Yes, you can use HDMI-in port to connect to other devices and use its screen as a monitor. It is designed for games consoles such as PS/4, PS/5 or Xbox ... It should work with notebooks too.
Regards.

My problem is "how". I have an AIO HP 24-k1305st with an HDMI-in port but I do not know how to switch the AIO to use this port. One source said to use f4 to select but that doesn't relate to the HDMI ports.

Hi Bobby,
I just found this… hopefully it helps:
HDMI In/Out Ports
Input select button
Many All-In-Ones (AIOs) can be used as a display for game consoles, laptops, or other computers. If your HP All-In-One has an HDMI-in port, simply plug one end of an HDMI cable into your source device, and the other end into the HDMI-In port on your All-In-One. Some All-In-Ones will display the signal immediately, while others may require you to press the "Display Source" button, sometimes labeled "HDMI" or "Input Switch."
- If your All-In-One does not have an HDMI-In port, it may have another type of input, such as DisplayPort or USB-C.
- The source button is sometimes located on the bottom or back of the computer.
