A vertical line appeared on the screen after about two hours of use. I've seen that many laptops have this problem because of a bad connection. They can move or make the the line disapear by applying pressure to the screen. The line on the Envy 34 is about 15mm right of center and is unaffected by pressure.
I've had lcd screens that had lines when they were first powered but the lines faded away with time. This line formed after first power, so I'm not sure it will fade. Will this computer need to be sent in for service?

Thanks for the reply.
Superb job on trying the different steps to isolate the issue.
It seems to be a hardware issue.
I request to contact HP Phone support for assistance.

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂
This is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that you are getting vertical lines on the screen. I would like to help you resolve this issue.
Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,
- Please try an alternate monitor to understand if this is either a hardware or a software failure,
- if the issue does not appear on the alternate monitor, you may need to replace the display assembly on your computer,
- if the issue appears on the alternate monitor/TV as well, re-install the graphics card drivers & update it from the official HP Website: Click here
- If you don’t have an alternate monitor, I recommend checking if the issue appears on the BIOS screen (restart the computer and tap on F10 to access BIOS)
- This would confirm if it's either a hardware failure or an issue with the graphics card drivers so we may reinstall and update the drivers to fix the issue as mentioned above.
- If the issue occurred after an accident (such as dropping it on the floor, liquid spilled on it, etc.) there could be a hardware failure and in such cases, you may need to get the computer repaired via HP (there could be a charge involved if the PC isn't covered by the accidental damage protection plan)
Reply with the result of the above-mentioned steps, for further assistance.

Thanks, I'm sure it's the screen connection for that column of elements. The line does not appear on other monitors. It's on this screen when used as a monitor for another computer, and it's there at the same width no matter the resolution or refresh rate.

continued -- Yes, the line is there In Bios; I didn't drop it. The box it came in is scuffed but there are no dents or crushed areas. The line gradually appeared over about ten minutes(I havn't even removed the protective plastic and wrappings).
