p7-1007c
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP desktop p7-1007c running Windows 10.  The video card which is integrated into the motherboard had a problem which Microsoft detected and tried to fix.  It resulted in a "stretched" screen on my AOC monitor.  Monitor adjustments and screen resolution adjustments did not work.  I bought a new video card but the PC will not identify it.  Upon power-up it always refers to the original card.

Any ideas on fixing this problem?

Hey there! @Toad91, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand you after replacing the graphics card it's not getting detected by the PC.

Don't worry I will try to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?

Is the graphics card compatible with your PC?

Is the graphics card listed in device manager?

Have your installed correct version of graphics driver on your PC?

Does your PC boot without the graphics card?

As you mentioned after replacing the graphics card it's not getting detected by the PC.

Please share graphics card model to assist you better.

Check if the monitor is connected to the system board. If it is connected to the system board it will not work as the onboard graphics gets disabled when an external graphics card is installed.

Connect the monitors to the graphics card directly and check if it works.

Secure Boot Configuration helps a computer resist attacks and infection from malware. When your computer was manufactured, UEFI created a list of keys that identify trusted hardware, firmware, and operating system loader code. It also created a list of keys to identify known malware.

When Secure Boot is enabled, the computer blocks potential threats before they can attack or infect the computer. For example, Secure Boot can prevent your computer from starting from illegally copied CDs or DVDs that could harm the computer. Secure Boot does not lock out valid recovery discs or Windows discs.

Secure Boot is enabled by default on computers that were manufactured with Windows 10. If Secure Boot has been disabled, follow these steps to enable it:

Turn off the computer.
Turn on the computer and immediately press F10 repeatedly, about once every second, until the Computer Setup Utility opens.
Use the left and right arrow keys to select the Security menu.
Use the up and down arrow keys to select Secure Boot Configuration, and then press Enter.
The Secure Boot Configuration warning displays. Press F10 to continue.
Use the left and right arrow keys to disable Legacy Support if it is enabled.
Use the up and down arrow keys to select Secure Boot, then use the left and right arrow keys to enable it.
Press F10 to accept the changes.
Press F10 again, then press Enter twice to restart the computer with Secure Boot enabled.

Refer this article to know more information about using secure boot on your PC.

Also,  Try restoring the BIOS to default and check if it helps.

1.    Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
2.    Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
3.    On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
4.    Press F10 to Save and Exit.
5.    Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
6.    Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Refer this article to further troubleshoot no boot issues with your laptop.

Thanks for the Posting Response, MrRobot.  I have sent your questions about my problem to my son because he did all the work on this problem.

The problem began with a failure of the video card on Thanksgiving.  This resulted in a change to my AOC screen.  I immediately called my  son, who is much smarter than me on PCs and the Windows 10 system.

He came to my house on Nov. 24, and determined that the video card crash was detected by Microsoft who sent an update to my PC. to fix it.  This action was only a partial fix.  He could only do small improvements to make it more workable.

The next week he bought a new video card , installed it, then tried to get it working.  No way!  My HP PC refused to identify it.  He took out the new card, and stated he would research this problem.

I sent this Posting to my son so he can better answer your questions.  He should get back to me today and I willl then Post another response to you.

Thanks

No offense Sandy, but it doesn't matter that this purchased video card has been tested by HP.  The real problem here is that the PC p7-1007c was purchased in 2011 is now malfunctioning and not going to identify any video card installed.

My son suggests that we dump the whole hard drive and start from anew.  The strong reason is that this PC began with a Windows 7 operating system when purchased in 2011.  The change to Windows 10 was just an upgrade provided by Microsoft.

The PC is not really running on a 100% Windows 10 system which may be the problem with the video integrated with the mother board.  My son's idea is to dump everything and see if loading a complete Windows 10 system makes a difference in the video card operation.

My other option is copy all documents, music, picture and Outlook files to an external drive, which I already do every 6 months.  I would then buy a new HP laptop and copy all the files into that.  Next I stop using the existing PC p7-1007c and keep it only for copying file from.  That's an extreme option but it is my last resort if nothing comes from responses in this forum.

I would like to say this morning I had some small progress on this "squeezed screen" problem.  But before the details it's

time to say that this PC with the problem is my wife's.  We bought her HP in 2011 when her laptop died.  I bought the same model in 2014 when my Dell tower PC died.

She upgraded to Windows 10 to help communicate with her family.  I stuck with Windows 7 because I don't like Windows 10.

The screen problem drives my wife nuts because she uses the PC for communication (Outlook) and her photos. So now the progress this morning.  I checked my Settings for my display and then translated to her PC.  Next I adjusted the AOC monitor (up arrow) to "Auto 16:9" .  This resulted in a "squeezed" screen but it really pleased my wife and seeing her photos.

After interviewing my wife and then exploring more options, I am seriously beginning to believe this PC problem is due to software, not hardware. I am now looking into doing a "Restore" eliminating the Windows Update No. 1709 for Windows 10.  The update was done automatically to my wife's PC on November 24th, 2017.  I showed my wife the new features provided with this No. 1709 upgrade, and she was not intered in any of them.

I will keep you all posted on if this Restore" works and brings the screen back to normal.
